What is a Billed Session?

  • 1 Each day a user opens a report = 1 Billed Session.
  • 2 If the same user opens the same report multiple times in one day, it still counts as 1 Billed Session.
  • 3 If the same user opens 3 different reports in one day, it counts as 3 Billed Sessions.
  • 4 Billed Sessions are counted over a rolling 30-day window.

Small team

10 users each open 3 reports per day, working 22 days/month.

10 users × 3 reports × 22 days = 660 Billed Sessions/month

Medium team

50 users each open 5 reports per day, working 3 days/week (about 12 days/month).

50 users × 5 reports × 12 days = 3,000 Billed Sessions/month

Large team

200 users have access to 10 reports, but on average each user opens 2 reports per day, working 4 days/week (about 16 days/month).

200 users × 2 reports × 16 days = 6,400 Billed Sessions/month

Self-Hosted

Need full data residency or very high usage?

BI Pixie Self-Hosted runs entirely in your Azure tenant with exclusive features: performance monitoring via Azure Log Analytics, Fabric RTI integration, and more. It is also the right home for very high billed-session volume, where running in your own Azure keeps cost under your control.

Pricing is based on your deployment scope, and includes dedicated onboarding and an Azure architecture review.

Frequently asked questions

What's included in the free trial?
The free trial lasts 14 days and includes up to 3 reports, 2,000 billed sessions, and access to Pro and Enterprise tier features. No credit card required to start.
Can I change my plan later?
Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately — you get instant access to the higher tier's features and limits. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing cycle, so you keep your current plan until then.
How does proration work when I upgrade?
Stripe — When you upgrade mid-cycle, you're credited for the unused portion of your current plan and charged the prorated cost of your new plan for the remainder of the billing period. From the next cycle onward, you're billed at the full new rate. You only pay for what you use.

Microsoft Marketplace — Plan changes take effect immediately and are prorated by Microsoft based on the remaining days in your billing cycle. You can manage your subscription from the Azure SaaS management page.
What happens if I exceed my billed sessions?
Billed sessions are counted on a rolling 30-day window, so older sessions naturally roll off. You'll receive a notification at 80% usage. Your cost is always fixed. Reaching the session limit will never result in additional charges. You choose what happens at the limit: pause tracking to preserve existing data, or keep collecting by trimming the oldest data first.
How does Enterprise pricing work?
Enterprise is one flat, predictable price with unlimited reports. We size your plan to your deployment and agree your limits up front, so there are no per-report fees, no per-user fees, no usage meters, and no overage charges. Reach out and we will scope it with you.
Do you charge per user?
No. You are never billed per user on any plan. Pricing is based on reports and billed sessions only.
What if we have hundreds of reports?
That is exactly what Enterprise is for. Reports are unlimited on Enterprise, and you pay one flat price, not per report.
What happens at very high usage?
Your Enterprise plan includes generous limits, sized to your deployment and agreed up front. You are never billed for going over. If your needs outgrow those limits, BI Pixie Self-Hosted runs in your own Azure so you stay in full control of scale and cost.

Billing & Marketplace

How can I pay?
Two options: pay directly via Stripe using a credit card, ACH bank transfer, or other supported payment methods — or bill through the Microsoft Marketplace and consolidate BI Pixie with your existing Azure spend. You can manage your Marketplace subscription from the Azure SaaS management page. Both options are available at checkout for all plans.
What is the difference between Stripe and Marketplace billing?
Stripe charges your payment method directly — credit card, ACH bank transfer (US), or other available methods. You manage your subscription, invoices, and payment method from the BI Pixie portal. Plan changes, billing cycle switches, and cancellations are instant and self-service.

Microsoft Marketplace bills through your Azure subscription, so BI Pixie appears as a SaaS line item on your Azure invoice. This lets you consolidate vendor billing and streamline procurement under the Standard Contract for Microsoft's commercial marketplace — no separate vendor agreement required. Plan changes and quantity updates are managed from the BI Pixie portal, but billing cycle changes and cancellations must be done through the Azure SaaS management page.
Do you offer monthly and annual billing?
Yes. Both Stripe and Marketplace subscriptions support monthly and annual billing. Annual billing saves you the equivalent of two months compared to monthly (pay for 10 months, get 12). You can switch between billing cycles from the Plans page in the BI Pixie portal (Stripe) or from the Azure SaaS management page (Marketplace).
Can I switch between Stripe and Marketplace billing?
Yes. You can switch billing providers from the Plans page in the BI Pixie portal. Your plan, reports, and data remain unchanged — only the payment method changes.

Security & Data

Is my data safe?
Absolutely. Your telemetry data is stored in a dedicated container with full encryption at rest and in transit. Your data is completely isolated from other tenants and accessible only to your account. BI Pixie never accesses your underlying Power BI data — we only capture interaction telemetry from the tracking pixels.
What happens when my trial ends?
When your trial ends, your account enters a 7-day grace period. During this time your data is preserved in read-only mode and you can subscribe to a paid plan to resume full access and tracking. If no subscription is started after the grace period, your account is suspended and your telemetry data is deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
